A Word About Volumetric Weight - How We Charge

Dimensional weight, also known as volumetric weight, uses an estimated weight that is calculated from the length, width and height of a package.

A less dense item generally occupies more volume of space, in comparison to its actual weight. The volumetric or dimensional weight is calculated and compared with the actual weight of the shipment to ascertain which is greater; the higher weight is used to calculate the shipment cost.

The courier charge of a shipment can be affected by the amount of space that it occupies on an aircraft, rather than the actual weight, this is known as volumetric (or dimensional) weight.

e.g A customer who ships a package that is 1kg in actual weight, however the customer’s package’s dimensions are 30cm (L) x 25cm (W) x 20 cm (H)

When you multiply the dimensions together you will get 15,000. If you divide the answer by 5000 you will get the dimensional weight which is 3kg.

30 x 25 x 20 = 15,000
15,000 / 5,000 = 3KG

The customer is therefore charged for 3kg than the actual weight of the package since it occupies more space on our shipment.
